BIOCHIM. Hormone synthétisée par les glandes parathyroïdes dont la sécrétion régularise le métabolisme du calcium et du phosphore de l'organisme et intervient notamment au niveau du fonctionnement du rein et du tissu osseux (d'apr. ADR.-LEGR. 1981). L'hypersécrétion de parathormone entraîne des effets sur le rein, l'os, l'appareil digestif, l'état général (Méd., t.1, 1980, p.1359 [Encyclop. de la Pléiade]).
